Project

Smart Technology Field

A holistic ecosystem for professional sports facilities. By intelligently connecting IoT sensors, cloud data and autonomous robotics, turf management is digitalised from the ground up.

About the project

The Digital Twin for High-Performance Sport

Maintaining professional sports pitches — football, hockey or baseball — is enormously resource-intensive and highly weather-dependent. The challenge was to lift the pitch out of its purely physical existence and turn it into a data-driven ecosystem.

The solution starts in the planning phase with full integration of BIM (Building Information Modeling). In day-to-day operation, everything comes together in the cloud: weather stations, usage intensity as heatmaps and irrigation data all feed the central MissionPlanner app.

That data is the basis for the “Turfrob” — an autonomous robotic system that takes over the physical care of the pitch and translates cloud insights directly into work on the turf.

Project Goal

What the Project Set Out to Achieve

The main goal was a symbiosis for every stakeholder of a sports club. For the investor, the system means long-term appreciation in value and future viability.

Fully automated processes — running even at night — take an enormous load off the greenkeeper. The most important result, though, is felt by athletes and coaches: a facility that guarantees a professional, natural playing feel at the highest level all year round.

Outcome

The Result in Pictures

Sensor data, heatmaps and weather forecasts become a concrete maintenance plan — visible in the MissionPlanner app dashboard and executed by the Turfrob, which works the field on its own.
